If you need Eden Prairie towing to pick up your junk vehicle and take it to the junkyard, there are some things you need to do first before we show up.

First, be sure to search your vehicle for any of personal items that you want to keep.  Take any of your personal belongings out of the vehicle before we tow it.  Make sure to check all the compartments, and storage places, like in the seat pockets behind the front seats, behind the sun visors, in the trunk, glove box, underneath the fronts seats, and any other place the things you want to keep might be.

Another thing you must do is remove the license plates, if there are still any license plates on the vehicle. Even if the license plates are very old they need to be removed and returned to the Department of Motor Vehicles. You can bring them to the Department of Motor Vehicles in yourself, or you can mail them to the Department of Motor vehicles.  If you are still carry insurance on the vehicle remember to call your insurance company and cancel the car insurance.

Even if you think your old vehicle is ready for the junkyard there may be some value to a junkyard in the parts and scrap metal.  Do your own research on the year, make, and model of your old vehicle and see what kind of a market there is for its parts. If you discover that the vehicle parts are in demand make a list of the parts that are most in demand or most valuable.  Typically the fenders, hood, and trunk lid body panels have value.  There may be some engine, drive train, and suspension parts that have significant value. 

After you have done your own research so you know the value of the parts, make an inventory for the parts that have value, and call the junkyard and give them your parts list and ask them how much they will pay you.  They may want the whole lot of parts, or only specific parts like the body panels. The rest of the vehicle should have some value as scrap metal to be recycled.  If they offer you a good deal for the whole vehicle it's probably better to just sell the whole car now rather than try to sell all of the parts yourself over time.  It's very inconvenient and work waiting for potential buyers and haggling with potential buyers over price can be annoying.

To protect the environment drain all of the gasoline out of the gas tank and all of the oil out of the engine.  You can do this either by running the vehicle if it will start and use up any gasoline left in the tank, or If the vehicle won't start then you can siphon the gas out of the gas tank.  If for some reason you cannot remove the gasoline from the vehicles fuel tank let us know and we will siphon the fuel out of the vehicle for you.
